During the African Development Bank 2024 Annual General Meetings, Anzetse Were attended a closed-door official side event led by the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning of Kenya, Prof. Njuguna Ndung'u, who chaired the inaugural Africa Ministers of Finance Roundtable on Climate Finance. The event was jointly convened with the Minister of Development Cooperation, Minister for Taxation, and Deputy Minister of International Affairs of Denmark.
Finance Ministers from Egypt, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, Rwanda were in attendance.
The countries resolved to:
Form an Africa Ministers of Finance Consultative Group to spearhead the enhanced mobilisation of climate finance for Africa
Kenya to be the interim chair
AfDB and AERC to support the Secretariat
The National Treasury and Green Economy Unit at the National Treasury Kenya to provide interim Secretariat functions
Thematic areas to be affirmed in the next meeting
