During the Africa Roundtable hosted by The Global Perspectives Initiative in May 2024, Anzetse shared her views on how the continent is updating it style of engagement with the global economy and global value chains, and the role of the African diaspora in this shift.

While Africa's share of the global economy, trade, and investment flows remains small, the central role of African inputs in global value chains and value creation is becoming increasingly recognised. This comes at a time when the African continent has a young and dynamic labour force that is the most educated in modern history, and a large diaspora in Europe, North America and other regions.
The African diaspora continues to play a key role in updating the understanding of how external actors perceive the continent, and with Africans at home, has begun the process of communicating the importance of releasing legacy and biased views of the continent. Going forward, one can expect continued collaboration between Africans at home and in the diaspora in recalibrating the position of Africa in the global economy, and the terms and tone with which external actors engage the continent.
